The Flemington Area Food Pantry, serving Hunterdon County, N.J., celebrated and unveiled their brand new solar array installation this week — a project was made possible by a collaborative donation effort among notable solar industry leaders and community volunteers, each supplying their individual components. Among all of the parties who contributed to make the installation a reality, the pantry has one in particular to thank– North Hunterdon High School student, Evan Kuster.

OMCO, one of the country’s major roll forming players, experienced the early days of the COVID-19 recession like most fabricators. The 350-employee company instituted face mask protocols, rearranged assembly cells, got to know Zoom, and limited the office population to support physical distancing.

Pedigree Ovens’ 4.5-acre solar installation is in the shape of a large dog bone and paw print. It debuted for National Clean Energy Week in September 2020, includes more than 4,300 solar panels and will produce enough energy to cover 100% of the Harvard-based pet food manufacturer and distributor’s yearly energy needs. It will also offset 1,456 tons of greenhouse gases annually.

OMCO Solar announced the completion of a 1.7 megawatt array for Harvard, IL based Pedigree Ovens. Honoring the bakery’s 25+ years producing top-of-the-line pet treats, the array was custom-built into the shape of a dog bone and paw. Spanning roughly 4.2 acres, the ground-mount solar array will produce approximately 2,044,224 kilowatt-hours of power each year – enough energy to fully cover the company’s energy needs.
